Cake
  • 1 box Cake mix (vanilla or white)
  • Eggs as directed on cake mix
  • Vegetable oil as directed on cake mix
  • Water as directed on cake mix
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
Frosting & Decorations
  • 1 container Buttercream frosting (white)
  • Green food coloring
  • Blue food coloring
  • Edible butterfly decorations
  • Edible flower decorations
  • 1/2 cup Graham cracker crumbs (for 'soil')
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Method
 

  1. Prepare cake batter according to cake mix instructions, adding vanilla extract.
  2. Bake cake in a round cake pan according to package directions. Let cool completely.
  3. While the cake cools, prepare buttercream frosting. Divide the frosting into three bowls.
  4. Tint one bowl of frosting green for the meadow. Tint another bowl of frosting blue for the sky.
  5. Frost the top half of the cake with the blue frosting and the bottom half with the green frosting. Blend the colors where they meet.
  6. Sprinkle graham cracker crumbs around the base of the cake to resemble soil.
  7. Arrange edible butterfly and flower decorations on the cake to create a natural meadow scene.
  8. Dust the cake lightly with powdered sugar to add a subtle shimmer.
  9. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
