Cake
  • 1 box cake mix (vanilla or chocolate)
  • Eggs as required by cake mix
  • Oil as required by cake mix
  • Water or milk as required by cake mix
Frosting & Decorations
  • 1 container whipped frosting (vanilla or chocolate)
  • Food coloring optional, for frosting
  • Sprinkles or edible decorations
  • 1 Small bento cake box

Method
 

  1. Prepare cake batter according to box instructions.
  2. Pour batter into a greased and floured small round cake pan (6-inch or smaller).
  3. Bake according to box instructions, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
  4. Let cake cool completely in the pan before inverting onto a plate.
  5. Level the cake by trimming the top if needed.
  6. Tint frosting with food coloring if desired.
  7. Frost the top and sides of the cake smoothly.
  8. Decorate with sprinkles, edible decorations, and a message for Mother's Day.
  9. Carefully place the cake into the bento cake box.
  10. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

For a richer flavor, substitute milk for water in the cake mix. You can also add a layer of jam or fruit filling between the cake layers.
