  • 1 pound breakfast beef sausage cooked and crumbled
  • 6 slices bread cubed
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard optional

Method
 

  1. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. Spread sausage and bread evenly in the dish.
  3. Sprinkle cheese over bread and sausage.
  4. Whisk eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and mustard (if using).
  5. Pour egg mixture evenly over the ingredients.
  6. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  7. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  8. Bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a spicier casserole, use hot breakfast sausage or add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the egg mixture.
